Conlin family have decided to design their southern house in sumptuous yet durable styles to stand out classically and last for long, long years. Expert interior designer Dana Wolter has made this possible.
Amy and J.C. Conlin desire a house made to look spectacular and fully functional both to adults’ and children’s needs. Based in Birmingham, Alabama, this house was decided to be incorporated with elegant elements.
Wolter has enough experience and undeniable talent to make families’ dream houses come true. She has considered fabrics as her strong suit; this material can be used to add a lot of warmth and comfort to a house. “Fabric is an essential element to begin with,” says Wolter. “What Conlins are looking for is a sturdy, classy and chic finish that is to be enjoyed for a long time without having anything to get concerned about.”
What Wolter has in mind, is to create a sophisticating yet livable place for the family. Her rewarding handiwork is to be noticed from the very first glance. Notice how soft weaves hang across the foyer and create an inviting atmosphere, while a bench dedicated to shoes displays an act of mindfulness. According to Wolter, you must feel the place being livable and welcoming from the first step inside.
The color palette of undertones consists of soft gray shades which also embraces the rooms and main spaces. The ceiling is also taken into account with the silver glisten to it.
“If you’re ever wondering how to emphasize space and depth, draperies are the answer,” says Wolter. “I have chosen 21-feet weaves for this place to give it extra comfy vibes.” Another touch of elegance made to this room are limestones around the fireplace and old-school French doors.
Head-to-head walls are favored by weaves as well for they enhance texture and color, contrasting perfectly in this case. The screen is custom-made with dark and deep tones, brass nails peeking through the dark background.
“I wasn’t really sure when the idea of fabric walls was presented,” says Amy Conlin. “But it looks a lot much better than what is sounds! Fabric walls aren’t something everyone has in their house, so it’s one-of-a-kind.”
This space is more comfortable and inviting than anything. You could easily receive vibes of a sweet grandma’s house. Fireplace surrounded by club chairs and fluffy sofa is way too hard to resist, particularly after a long day. There’s also enough space to bring in more seatings in case of having guests over.
“The library is meant to be full of energy and engagement while offering comfort,” says Wolter. That is the reason behind her color scheme consisting of dark shades and bright touches here and there.
“The color palette was meant to display J.C.’s wide taste for colors and appearances,” explains Wolter. “This has made me decide on creating a cozy space where he can chill after a day of work, or just invite a friend over and shade a drink.” The cranberry settee is indeed such a delicious touch considering main colors.
Almost all people spend a big part of their life in kitchens. Having that in mind, Wolter has decided to incorporate inviting and thrilling colors into Conlin’s kitchen. Take note how all the blues and grays display a soothing environment.
Kitchen ceiling is painted in pure, bright white for the sake of clean-ness and tranquility. Counters and islands are decorated in graceful marble surfaces. “Marble is a fantastic choice for kitchens,” says Amy. “It creates a beautiful and mute theme.”
“The idea of having a bench in my house wasn’t much appealing at first,” says Amy. “Particularly not a white one since light colors get stained easily. But Dana chose vinyl for material, and it’s easy to clean with a wet wipe.”
Wolter has decided to create an exclusively delicate and cozy atmosphere in this living room; all those gray shades and soft structures play a part in this setting. Stained wood furniture and blue fabrics have provided this room with a classic look, meshing with a classic turned-leg table.
Amy is in love with the master bathroom, and you can clearly see why. Dana has incorporated a delicious palette of soft grays and matte white, finished by a marble bathtub. The mindful design has ended up with this serene room filled with classic finishes that will stand the test of time.
Wolter has marble-coated everything in this bathroom. The walls are favored by gold marble and patterned mosaics hug the floor in a stylish manner. There’s also a drape provided to get this bathroom some privacy.
